Specialty Group Programming

Our specialty programming has been a cornerstone of Pilates Fit Studio for years. These programs apply to both Pilates and GYROTONIC® Method small groups, recognizing that each system uses its own equipment and techniques to achieve the same goals.

Instructors lead each program with specific training to ensure safe, effective progression within each movement method. This well-rounded structure delivers a complete, full-body experience that supports your fitness goals and fosters long-term strength, mobility, and body awareness.

Our specialty groups include:

  • Foundations – for beginners, building strength and confidence
  • Elevate – deeper challenge for intermediate/advanced clients.
  • Wise Woman – strength, mobility, and empowered aging
  • The Better Back®: A Spine & Bone Health Class – osteoporosis-safe and spine-supportive
  • Professional track – for certified instructors, maintaining strength, connection, and inspiration.

Small-Group Pilates Lessons

Our Pilates small groups use multiple pieces of Classical apparatus to create a full-body, balanced training experience:

  • Reformer: spring-based resistance for strength, precision, alignment, and flow
  • Tower: spring work for strength, mobility, and stability
  • Mat & Barrels: integrated training that enhances spinal mobility, posture, and core connection

Together, these create a comprehensive system that develops strength, flexibility, and body awareness.

Small-Group GYROTONIC® Method Lessons

GYROTONIC® small groups use the Pulley Tower Combination Unit – a unique pulley system that uses weights and springs to provide resistance. The GYROTONIC® METHOD helps strengthen the body through continuous flowing motion under adaptable tension.

  • Adjustable weights and spring tension support fluidity, strength, and joint mobility
  • Continuous, flowing movement encourages length, expansion, and functional strength.

This method complements Pilates beautifully while offering an entirely different movement experience.

To keep the group Pilates classes at our studio in Louisville safe and maintain the flow, all class participants must be injury-free, have a good understanding of equipment safety, can see and hear the teacher, and do not require hands-on assistance for stability in getting up and down from the floor or onto and off the apparatus. If you require accommodations due to injuries, vision, hearing, speech, or mobility barriers (such as unstable balance or difficulty moving up and down from the floor unassisted), please get in touch with the studio to discuss your needs before registering for a Pilates class near Louisville, KY. We are pleased to offer personalized one-on-one instruction during private Pilates sessions in our Louisville studio. Still, we cannot significantly alter the workout to adjust for mobility limitations in group sessions due to the nature of our studio setup. Thank you for being so understanding.

What You Need to Know About Pilates Classes, Reformer Pilates, and Classical Pilates

Frequently Asked Questions

At Pilates Fit Studio, many people find us by searching for “Pilates classes near me” or “reformer Pilates,” but they discover something far more personal and effective. Unlike trendy group reformer classes focusing on cardio-style workouts, we specialize in authentic Classical Pilates. Joseph Pilates created the original method. Taught in an intimate, concierge-style setting. Our studio offers private, duet, and semi-private lessons designed to meet you exactly where you are, helping you build lasting strength, improve mobility, and feel your absolute best.

We offer reformer Pilates classes, but not in the trendy, fitness-class sense. While many studios only use the Reformer, Classical Pilates utilizes the entire apparatus system created by Joseph Pilates. At Pilates Fit Studio, our lessons include the Reformer, Tower, Cadillac, Barrels, Chairs, and specialized small apparatus. This provides a more complete, balanced, and transformative workout beyond the Reformer class.

When people think of “Pilates classes,” they often picture large, open-level group sessions with little personal attention. At Pilates Fit Studio, we take a very different approach by offering two types of small group experiences:

1. Semi-Private Lessons
Semi-private lessons are scheduled like private sessions, pairing you with the same small group of three to four participants weekly. This consistency allows your instructor to know you, your goals, and your body honestly, creating a personalized experience supporting long-term progress.
Each semi-private session is structured for maximum impact and variety. The first half is spent on the Reformer, where you’ll focus on core engagement, alignment, and dynamic movement. The second half transitions to the Tower units, raised mats, barrels, and other classical apparatus, giving you a comprehensive, full-body workout designed to challenge, restore, and refine your movement with precision.
Semi-private lessons are offered at both Louisville and Pewee Valley locations.

2. SpringTone® Classes
SpringTone® is a high-intensity resistance training class that uses the Pilates Tower and spring system to deliver a full-body workout. You don’t need more than the magic of the Pilates springs to get your heart rate up, your muscles burning, and your whole body challenged to the core.
This class uses timed circuits and cycles through body parts to help you heat up, tone up, and lean out—all while enjoying the energy of training alongside others. Unlike semi-private lessons, no private sessions are required before joining.
SpringTone® is best suited for injury-free participants with no osteoporosis or disc issues and at least six months postpartum.
SpringTone® Pilates classes are offered at the Pilates Fit Studio Louisville (Indian Hills) location.

If you are searching for Pilates classes in Louisville and want to begin at Pilates Fit Studio, you have two ways to start:

1. Semi-Private Pilates Lessons: All new clients begin with four to six private lessons before joining a semi-private group (learn about our private lessons here.) This step ensures you learn proper form, understand Classical Pilates principles, and build a strong foundation for long-term results.

2. SpringTone® Pilates Classes: No prerequisites are required. You can join SpringTone® right away if you are injury-free, have no osteoporosis or disc issues, and are at least six months postpartum.

Yes, we offer beginner Pilates classes at Pilates Fit Studio. Our Foundations program is designed specifically for beginners. You will start with 4-6 private sessions to build confidence, then transition into a semi-private group where you continue progressing under close guidance. We ensure you move at the right pace, mastering fundamentals before advancing. If you are a beginner and want to join our classes, start by booking an Introductory Consultation Session so that we can lay the foundation of your individualized program.

For the best results, we recommend two to three sessions per week. This frequency allows your body to adapt, build strength, and improve mobility while giving you enough recovery time. Even one session per week, done consistently, can create noticeable progress.

Yes, many of our clients come to us with back pain, osteoporosis, scoliosis, or other conditions. Because we offer private and small-format training, we can modify exercises and tailor programming to your needs. For safety reasons, SpringTone® is not recommended for individuals with injuries, disc issues, or osteoporosis.

The instructors at Pilates Fit Studio have invested years in extensive training, committing continuously to their education to provide the most complete and authentic Pilates experience possible. Their dedication preserves the original work Joseph Pilates created, performed as intended on the historical apparatus.

All of our teachers hold comprehensive 600-hour Classical Pilates certifications. This training covers the full syllabus of exercises, anatomy and physiology, case studies, and program design, and includes a true apprenticeship. Our instructors take no shortcuts and do not combine unrelated fitness trends into our programming.

At Pilates Fit Studio, we specialize in intelligent, results-driven exercise. Our personalized instruction helps you better understand body organization, neuromuscular patterning, and optimal movement strategies. Using the full array of Classical Pilates equipment, you will improve posture, enhance joint articulation, balance muscle tone, and increase overall flexibility.

The higher investment reflects the quality of instruction, the consistency of small-group training, and the authenticity of the Classical Pilates experience.

Classical Pilates is the original method developed by Joseph Pilates. It follows a structured progression, integrates the entire body in every exercise, and uses all nine original apparatuses—not just the Reformer.

“Reformer Pilates” studios often adapt Pilates into trendy fitness classes, blending cardio and weights for a workout that may not follow the method’s principles. At Pilates Fit Studio, we honor the Classical system, focusing on precision, flow, and individualized progression for long-lasting results.
